Photos
If you choose to add a student photo, Seating Chart uses the image you select for that student’s classroom record. Access should be requested only when a feature needs it.
Privacy, by design
Seating Chart is designed to keep student and classroom information on your iPad rather than in a Seating Chart cloud account.
Privacy in brief
These four ideas describe how the Seating Chart iPad app is intended to work at launch.
You can still choose to print, export, or share information using iPadOS.
Classes, students, seating arrangements, and classroom information are designed to be stored locally in Seating Chart on the iPad you use.
Teachers do not need to create a Seating Chart account just to build classrooms, add students, or use the core app.
Seating Chart is designed without advertising and without third-party behavioral analytics used to profile teachers or students.
When you deliberately print, export, or share information, Seating Chart prepares it for the destination you select through iPadOS.
Privacy policy
This policy explains the app’s intended launch data practices and the separate boundaries that apply to Apple services, teacher-selected destinations, support, and this website.
This policy describes the intended launch data practices of the Seating Chart iPad app. It also identifies website and support interactions where their practices differ from the app.
The core app is designed to store and process classroom information locally on the iPad without requiring that information to be transmitted to or received by the developer. Information can exist inside Seating Chart without being collected by us.
Information handled by Apple platform services or sent to a destination deliberately selected by the teacher is separate from information received directly by Seating Chart.
When you create a class, add a student, arrange a seating chart, or record classroom information, that information is designed to be stored inside Seating Chart on the iPad you are using. It is not intended to be uploaded to a Seating Chart account or developer-operated student database.
On-device classroom information is used by the app to provide its seating-chart and classroom functions. It may include:
Some useful classroom workflows deliberately involve information selected by the teacher or a destination outside Seating Chart.
If you choose to add a student photo, Seating Chart uses the image you select for that student’s classroom record. Access should be requested only when a feature needs it.
When you choose a supported roster or file, the app reads the information needed for that import. The file is not intended to be uploaded to a Seating Chart server.
When you deliberately print, export, or share information, Seating Chart hands the requested information to the iPadOS destination you select. That destination’s privacy practices may then apply, and Seating Chart does not control the information after it is sent there.
Local storage does not mean information can never leave the physical device. Apple operates iPadOS, device backups, diagnostics, crash reporting, and other platform services. Apple’s own practices and the user’s device settings apply to those services.
Apple backup and device-management settings—and, for managed devices, school policies—control whether and how app information participates in those systems. Seating Chart does not control Apple’s services or a school’s mobile-device-management configuration.
Schools and teachers remain responsible for configuring devices and using the app in accordance with their own policies and applicable requirements.
Classroom records stored locally in the app are different from information you deliberately send to Seating Chart through support or website interactions.
If you contact Seating Chart support, we may receive the information you choose to send, such as your email address, message, screenshots, files, or other details. We use that information to respond and provide support.
Avoid including student names, photos, rosters, notes, or other identifying classroom information unless it is genuinely necessary. Crop, blur, or remove identifying information whenever possible.
The Seating Chart website and iPad app are not the same privacy environment. Website hosting, request or server logging, analytics, contact forms, and embedded media can create separate data practices.
The production website disclosure will be finalized after those services are selected and verified.
Seating Chart is designed without advertising, and no advertising SDK is planned for the app. It is not designed to sell student or teacher information to advertisers.
We do not plan to embed third-party analytics SDKs that build profiles of teachers or students or send classroom activity to advertising platforms. The core app is also not intended to collect advertising identifiers, location data, contacts, or browsing history.
Apple’s App Store information, platform services, diagnostics, and crash reporting are separate from developer-operated behavioral tracking. Services used by a destination deliberately selected by the teacher are also subject to that destination’s practices.
Teachers are intended to control classroom records stored within the app through the deletion controls provided by Seating Chart.
Removing the app may remove locally stored app data, subject to Apple device, backup, restore, and managed-device behavior.
Information received through support or the website may have separate retention practices. Those practices and any applicable retention period must be finalized and verified before launch.
Seating Chart is a tool for teachers. Students do not need Seating Chart accounts merely to appear in a teacher’s seating chart, and the core app is not intended to require a developer-operated student account system.
Teachers and schools are responsible for using the app and configuring their devices in accordance with their own policies and applicable requirements.
Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Seating Chart does not receive the customer’s App Store payment credentials, such as credit-card information. Apple’s applicable App Store practices govern those transactions.
If Seating Chart’s data practices materially change, this policy will be updated to describe those changes. The effective and last-updated dates at the top of this page will be revised as appropriate.
Questions about this policy or Seating Chart’s privacy design can be sent through Seating Chart Support.
