Seating Chart is being designed as a local-first iPad app. Classes, students, seating arrangements, and classroom information are intended to be stored locally inside the app rather than uploaded to a Seating Chart cloud account.

Local does not mean trapped

You may deliberately use iPadOS features to import a roster, select a student photo, print a chart, export a file, or share information with a destination you choose.

Apple backup and school device-management settings can also affect information stored on an iPad. Those systems are controlled by Apple and, for managed devices, possibly a school or district.

The intended distinction

  • Classroom information can exist and be useful inside the app without the developer receiving a copy.
  • The core app is not intended to upload classroom records to a developer-operated student database.
  • Teacher-directed imports, exports, sharing, and system services are separate from developer collection.
